So we are all excited. Of course we are. We were tired of being bled dry.

So what else has happened?

Apparently we are being offered 10MB of free webhosting, like all other ISP's round the world do. Their announcement is at http://www.emirates.net.ae/web.html which gives the announcement but not the method to get your free space. A phone call to 04-2022352 will ask you to come pick up the form from their offices. No online forms yet. Looking at the rules that were enforced during their last promotion, this will probably involve a "Letter of Approval" from the Ministry of Information & Culture. The rules are quite revealing.

So what else?
Basically this:

The old Unlimited ISDN LAN connection was Dhs.4,000/month.
At the old rates if you stayed online 24 hours a day,
24hrs x 30 days x 6/-Dhs = Dhs. 4,320.
Unlimited was 7.5% cheaper than Dial in 24 hours

The new Unlimited ISDN LAN rate is Dhs. 3,000/month.
At the new rates if you stayed online 24 hours a day,
19hrs x 30 days x 3.00 Dhs = Dhs. 1,710.
5hrs x 30 days x 1.80 Dhs = Dhs.   270.
Total Dial in charge for 24 hours a day = 1,980.
Unlimited is now 50% more expensive than Dial in 24 hours

THAT IS ABSURD !
